Volunteer CRB Check

A voluntary CRB check is free of charge (the only charge is United Medicare admin fee)

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) defines a volunteer to be ‘a person who performs any activity which involves spending time, unpaid (except for travelling and other approved out-of-pocket expenses), doing something which aims to benefit someone (individuals or groups) other than or in addition to close relatives’.

A candidate is NOT eligible for a voluntary check if:

  • The person engaging in the activity requires payment, in excess of expenses they incur.
  • Benefits directly themselves (e.g. Students on work experience) or helps them obtain a job or with their career.

A voluntary CRB is free of charge and only requires the payment of the United CRB administration fee. A registered charity will not automatically be eligible for voluntary CRB if the position in question has any remuneration – financial or otherwise. They have defined training positions or those completing a period of training are gaining in a non-financial sense and so would not eligible.

If your employee has a CRB Disclosure, it is not necessary to have them checked against the List 99 as this would have already been carried out within the CRB process.

Since Changing to United Medicare Ltd, I have found the staff very helpful, polite and engaging. The service provided is prompt and act as a very useful resource. The First POVA checks are promptly returned however I understand the CRB`s are longer with strict criteria having to be adhered to. Our plan is to continue with United Medicare Ltd, the service is great. Many Thanks
